The trial of Mr. Diouf, 21, opened before the Dakar Criminal Chamber concerning a case of infanticide. The facts date back to December 28, 2021, when she was still 18 years old and a second grade student. Having hidden his pregnancy from his parents, Mr. Diouf gave birth alone at his home in Jaxaay. According to the charges, she used a scarf to extract the newborn, causing his death by asphyxiation. The medical certificate confirmed the death, citing injuries to the trunk and internal bleeding.
During his appearance at the bar, Mr. Diouf expressed his regrets and requested clemency from the Chamber, stressing that she did not intend to kill her child. She explained that she acted out of fear of judgment from her family and society. Her lover, MA Gueye, for her part recognized the paternity of the child.
The public prosecutor insisted on the consistency of the accusations of infanticide, while taking into account the young age of the accused. He demanded the strict application of criminal law. The defense, led by Me Iba Mar Diop and Baba Diop, pleaded for a benevolent application of the law.
