> The EFS reminds that donating blood is essential because there is, to date, no synthetic medicine capable of replacing blood products from blood donations. 10,000 donations are needed every day to meet the needs of patients waiting for a blood transfusion. These may be patients suffering from genetic diseases, such as sickle cell anemia, cancers and leukemia, or people with a more occasional but vital need for blood (in the event of hemorrhage during accidents, childbirth or again during surgical interventions).
The main conditions for donating:
– be aged between 18 and 70
– be in good health
– weigh at least 50 kg
– do not fast and hydrate well before donation
– bring proof of identity.
