At a press conference, Valencia coach Carlos Corberán said his team had, at times, been up to the task during the game against Real Madrid on Friday, where they suffered a turnaround, and where he made his debut as a coach.
“The feeling of defeat is painful. The atmosphere created at the Mestalla was extraordinary, but at times the team played the football we worked on. I am satisfied with the commitment and devotion,” he said.
Corberán analyzed that in the first half they were better than in the second, where it was more difficult to attack while Madrid accumulated quality players who can wear down any team, a- he noted.
“We are aware that there are aspects of the game that we will continue to improve; we have only been working together for a few days, and I see the commitment of the team. I am impressed by the support of the fans; they made the Mestalla very difficult to play again,” he added.

“The team had some good moments and showed personality and character, which is important to me. We are talking about a team that won a world title a few days ago, and we know the weight of Madrid in this match. There were times when we could not impose the game that we should ultimately impose,” he continued.
The coach said he saw “a committed group, playing with responsibility and boldness”, but that there were “situations” that they did not handle “with maturity”. “However, I saw a team dedicated to the idea and growing as a group,” he assured.
On the other hand, Corberán was asked about his opinion regarding the role of Hugo Guillamón on the second goal and expressed that he did not think that the error should be personalized on him. “We should have handled this situation better. Hugo had no advantage; he was marked. We will learn from this action,” he said.

As for Umar Sadiq, the Real Sociedad striker who was at the Mestalla and is close to arriving on loan at the club, he restrained his comments. “I don’t know if I can count on him; I will talk about the players when they are officially announced. My attention was on today’s match. If there are developments in one direction or another, I will give my honest opinion,” he said.
