The heavy rainfall that fell on Vancouver in 2024 makes it the wettest year on record since the start of the 21st century.

According to Environment Canada, more than 1,300 mm of rain was recorded last year at Vancouver International Airport.

Meteorologist Chris Doyle says the most reliable record year for rainfall was in 1997. That year, more than 1500mm fell on the metropolitan area.

Despite the abundance of rain on the south coast, all of British Columbia experienced warmer and somewhat drier weather than normal. This was particularly the case in Fort Nelson, in the northeast of the province, which experienced the fifth driest years on record.

What is a weather bomb?
