Millions of official documents relating to the year 1994 were declassified on January 1, 2025, after the legal deadline of thirty years. The Dodisa research center carefully examined the equivalent of a kilometer of diplomatic documents, and now makes around 1,700 accessible in its database, put in context.

These files notably highlight the close overlap between Switzerland’s internal and foreign policy that year. More than a year after the “Black Sunday” of the no to the EEA in December 1992, there is a lot of talk about Europe. Confidential negotiations with the EU on bilateral sectoral agreements are launched. Former President of the Confederation, Ruth Dreifuss is participating this January 3, at the University of Bern, in the opening organized by the Dodis center directed by history professor Sacha Zala. She delves into her memories for us. With undisguised pleasure.
