On December 31, several French community websites were made inaccessible after cyberattacks claimed by a group opposed to France's support for Ukraine. Some, like that of Haute-Garonne, remain unavailable.
Several city and department websites were victims of a cyberattack claimed by a group of pro-Russian hackers. Since Tuesday, December 31, the sites of the cities of Tarbes and Pau as well as that of the Department of Haute-Garonne have been affected. In Toulouse, the official website of the Department still remains unavailable.
These cyberattacks, attributed to the NoName group, aim to protest French support for Ukraine. Other cities such as Bordeaux were also affected, and even the Paris police headquarters site was briefly affected before being restored.
“Some features are no longer accessible”
The Pau site, although accessible again, confirms that the city has suffered an attack: “Functionalities are no longer accessible or are in degraded mode”, we can read on the website.
NoName, known for its pro-Russian actions, uses DDoS (denial of service) attacks, which consist of overwhelming a website with automatic requests until it becomes inaccessible. This operating method seriously disrupts the online services of local administrations.
