New Year’s Eve: a night with the Gendarmes du Gard

On the occasion of the dreaded New Year's Eve, Sud Magazine followed the gendarmes of the Bagnols-sur-Cèze Gendarmerie Company. Between fire, road accident and license withdrawals, a return to a high-risk night.

The system was deployed from 4 p.m. this Tuesday, December 31, the opportunity to carry out preventive checks on people returning from work or already going to the various New Year's evenings planned on the company's territory.

From this early evening there is activity for the company's soldiers who must manage the checks and the first incidents with insults to agents.

In the middle of the night, it was in Pont-Saint-Esprit that a first major but minor incident occurred. An unlicensed and heavily intoxicated driver loses control of his vehicle. Fortunately, he is the only one involved but the individual will end the night in police custody with a destroyed car.

Another event will mobilize the men of the Pont-Saint-Esprit gendarmerie brigade almost simultaneously with the start of a house fire in the town of Saint-Julien-de-Peyrolas (see article).

At the end of the night, attention was focused on leaving the nightclub and particularly the Toto Club in Saint-Michel-d'Euzet. A productive end of the night for the gendarmes who carried out systematic checks of passing vehicles. Checks which gave rise to 2 protective withdrawals of licenses for blood alcohol levels above 0.5g/L of exhaled air but also fines.
