The end of the year was dramatic on the roads of the department. Between December 20 and 25, two motorists and a pedestrian were killed in Claye-Souilly, Saint-Germain-Laxis and Cély-en-Bière. Three new people killed which weighed down a with already marked by 69 deaths and increasing compared to 2023 (63 people dead) and 2022 (57 victims).
For the prefecture of Seine-et-Marnethese fatal accidents are linked to recurring causes: “excessive or inappropriate speed, inattention, consumption of alcohol and/or drugs, fatigue, drowsiness and malaise“.
Three children killed on March 10 in Servon
This increase alarming was unfortunately symbolized by the tragic accident which occurred on March 10 on the RN 104 near Servon. A Mercedes SUV, in which three children and their parents were traveling, crashed into the pile of a bridge. The results were terrible with the death of the three children (aged ten and five years and two months respectively) and their mother seriously injured. Only the father, who was driving the vehicle, escaped unhurt.
How can we prevent such tragedies from happening again? Throughout the year, state services (prefecture, police and gendarmerie) have increased roadside checks and the operations of prevention. Like his predecessor Lionel Beffre in February 2023, Pierre Ory, the prefect of Seine-et-Marne, even raised his voice after three people were killed in three separate accidents that occurred on May 25 near Villeparisis, in Nemours and in crossing the forest of Fontainebleau.
“Strengthen road checks”
“I call on everyone to respect basic rules of conduct and I ask that the vigilance measures essential to the safety of our fellow citizens be applied. I also asked the security forces to strengthen road checks throughout the department“, he said in a press release.
Just before the holidays, on December 20, a new road check was carried out at the Fleury-en-Bière toll gate, on the A6, with the same slogan: awareness. Unfortunately, in the following days, three fatal accidents darkened the picture. The fight for road safety remains incessant.
