The stories of confusion and administrative errors are now behind her. The town of Grigny, in the south of the metropolis of Lyon, officially changes its name this Wednesday, January 1, 2025 and becomes “Grigny-sur-Rhône”.
A request which had been made by the municipality to the State so as to no longer be confused with two homonymous municipalities, located in Essonne and Pas-de-Calais.
“A way of clinging to the territory”
Note that this new name, validated by the government in an official decree dated August 8, 2024, has not not chosen at random.
“It’s a way of clinging to the territory, to our history and our geography. We have the Rhône park, 5 kilometers along the river…”, Xavier Odo, the city’s mayor, explained to us in a previous interview.
If the locals will undoubtedly continue to speak of “Grigny” orally, the addition of the words “sur-Rhône” will undoubtedly clarify the situation between the three French communes.
