Found lifeless in front of an SQ station: suspicions of criminal negligence causing death emerge

A man could face criminal charges in connection with the mysterious discovery of the inanimate body of a 23-year-old man last week in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, in front of a Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police station. .

The suspect, aged in his thirties, was arrested at dawn over the weekend and then released.

He would be suspected of criminal negligence causing death, indignity to a corpse and possession of a prohibited firearm, we learned.

The Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) will ensure that the charges that can be brought against the suspect are authorized.

The public prosecutor indicated to Journal not having “any information of a public nature” on this subject, Monday afternoon.

Nebulous circumstances

According to our information, the victim who was located in a vehicle by authorities on Friday is Alejandro Whalley-Blanco.

He was in front of an SQ post in the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC, on Hébert Street.

Investigators combed through the vehicle where the victim was found on Friday, December 27.

It is possible that the deceased did not go to the scene alone, having been injured by a firearm.

In the first hours of the investigation on Friday, the police were unable to advance whether a criminal act or a deliberate act was at the origin of the tragedy.

Moreover, while the thread of events remains unclear, the case is still officially treated as a suspicious death, and not as a murder.

Known to the authorities

Alejandro Whalley-Blanco has had dealings with the courts on various occasions in recent years, which has landed him a few stints behind bars, our research indicates.

Last February, he was sentenced to one year in detention, notably for trafficking in substances and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Given his pre-trial detention, he only had eight months left to serve.

He was also convicted of theft, criminal harassment and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Several members of his entourage expressed their grief on social networks.

“My brother whom I love so much, my heart is heavy, you did not deserve his pants,” writes Pamela Whalley-Blanco. If only I could hug you one last time.”
