“FRAPP expresses its dismay at the recent visit of the Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition to Grande Côte Opérations (GCO), without taking into account the concerns of the populations of Niayes, who nevertheless demonstrated massively this Saturday, December 28 .

It is inconceivable that a minister would go there to only collect the version of the company in question, while ignoring that of the populations directly affected by the destruction of their ecosystem. This biased approach, guided by the company itself, raises serious questions about the transparency and impartiality of our authorities in the face of environmental and social issues.

The Senegalese Constitution enshrines the right of every citizen to a healthy environment and the protection of natural resources for present and future generations. This fundamental right, enshrined in our fundamental law, is violated when the authorities prioritize corporate interests to the detriment of populations and the ecosystem.

FRAPP calls on the minister to organize an official meeting with the populations of Niayes to listen to their grievances, to put in place truly sovereign management of natural resources in accordance with the environmental rights of citizens and to translate into action the commitments of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko for a government close to the people. Furthermore, we urge the National Assembly to fully play its role as representative of the people by questioning the government on this situation and demanding an end to the massacre of the Loumpoul ecosystem.

A government of actions must serve the people, not private interests. FRAPP reaffirms its solidarity with the inhabitants of Niayes and its commitment to fight against environmental and social injustice. »
