The Au Fil des marques store had requested the City of Pouliguen (-Atlantique) to obtain authorization to open for seven Sundays in 2025.

Competition for city center commerce

For the record, Au Fil des marques, located at 26 boulevard de l'Atlantique, succeeded the Max Plus brand and, through its clothing sales activity, enters into direct competition with downtown businesses carrying out the same activity. .

“The vitality of the heart of the town is a major objective supported by the municipal team which is committed alongside the Department of Loire-Atlantique in the creation of a guide plan, voted in municipal council whose objective is to maintain and to develop the vitality of town center commerce in order to improve the attractiveness of the municipality and the return of main residents”, recalls Alain Guichard, municipal councilor in charge of human resources and the economy.

The municipality also emphasizes that Au Fil des marques is a stock clearance store with very attractive prices and located in a busy business area.

Allowing them to open on Sundays would carry the risk of attracting customers away from city center stores and would risk calling into question their sustainability.

During its meeting of December 16, 2024, the municipal council therefore refused opening on all Sundays requested by the brand.
