The 350,000 daily users of line 6 of the Paris metro can rejoice, they should soon benefit from improved conditions. Since 2017, the most elevated line in the capital (13 stations out of 28) which connects Place de l'Etoile (8th arrondissement) to Place de la Nation (12th arrondissement) via the left bank, has been modernized.
Two programs are launched in parallel. The first concerns “heritage” renovation work, at the level of superstructures and infrastructures, in particular the viaducts dear to Parisians but also to tourists fond of the view of the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. The second program instead focuses on modernizing the line. Tracks, platforms, signaling and control systems… RATP is reviewing everything. Right up to the trains since the MP89s have been installed since January 2023 and should occupy the entire line by 2026.
Traffic interruptions compensated by buses
But because we get nothing for nothing in life, who says new installations and new trains, says works and therefore… Temporary traffic interruptions. Also, several closures of line 6 are planned along its 13.6 kilometers throughout 2025. And this will start on January 6 with partial interruptions which will take place until February 12. During this period, the line will close every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 p.m., (except Wednesday January 8 due to an event planned at the Accor Arena). However, on Sunday January 26, the line will be completely closed all day.
During these closure periods, RATP will offer replacement buses between Charles de Gaulle – Etoile and La Motte-Picquet Grenelle and between Daumesnil and Nation stations.
Closures spread throughout the year
Other partial closures are planned as follows:
– From February 17 to 28: Between Charles de Gaulle – Etoile and La Motte – Piquet-Grenelle
– April 12 and 13 and May 18: Between Daumesnil and Nation
– April 26 and 27 and May 25: Between Charles de Gaulle – Etoile and Trocadéro – Entire line on June 15
– From October 20 to 30 inclusive: Between La Motte-Piquet Grenelle and Place d’Italie (3 track crossings to be renewed in the heritage program)
In order to reassure users, the RATP ensures that replacement buses will be put in place during all these periods and “communication campaigns will be carried out (distribution of flyers, display at stations in the spaces and in the airport, sound announcements and visual, etc.) well in advance so that travelers can be informed and make their arrangements.” In addition, “channel agents will also be deployed on the platforms of temporary terminals and in the closed stations of line 6 with connections in order to support users in their travels”.
