Tuesday evening, New Year's Eve, the prefect of Haute-, Yvan Cordier, accompanied by Michel Chapuis, the mayor of Puy-en-Velay and president of the Ponote urban community, came to salute the commitment of those who were responsible for ensuring the safety of the population during this night like no other.

The opportunity for the state representative and elected official to meet the doctors, firefighters, police officers and gendarmes who were on call during the last night of the year and the first early morning of 2025.

At the hospital center, “emergencies are running at full staff”

“Every year, the emergency rooms at Émile-Roux hospital are at full staff for New Year’s Eve,” says Doctor Julien Allirand, head of emergencies at the Puy-en-Velay establishment.

With 120 visits on average per day, the number of patients was already expected to increase at the start of the evening with 102 visits recorded at 5 p.m. »

No “comfort interventions” for firefighters

In Taulhac, at the firefighters, the visit of the prefect and mayor Ponot was an opportunity to take stock of the increasing activity. “Our interventions are not comfort interventions, they are linked to human activity, bad weather and the aging of the population.”

Twelve police officers on duty

There were twelve of them on call at the police station. Blood alcohol checks were on the agenda for the night, “unless emergency police interventions are necessary”.

In the prefectural town, there is little fear of the risk of urban violence, however an order has been issued to prohibit the transport and use of fireworks.
