The mayor of Clermont-Ferrand Olivier Bianchi (PS) reacts by welcoming “the strong mobilization” of the French and the score of the New Popular Front in Clermont, but “deplores the score of the RN”. He calls for withdrawals “in favor of the candidate best placed against the RN”

The mayor of Clermont-Ferrand and president of Clermont Auvergne Métropole, Olivier Bianchi (PS), reacted a little before 9:30 p.m. with a press release in which he welcomed “the strong mobilization of French women and men in favor of the New Popular Front […]the only democratic alternative for economic and social justice and for the necessary ecological transition.”

Behind this brief preamble, he immediately “deplores” the score of the RN which came first: “This is bad news for our country. Throughout our history, the extreme right has always been synonymous with political and social reaction, of danger for democratic and constitutional rights, also synonymous with deep division of the French people.”

Olivier Bianchi welcomes the arrival at the top of the candidates of the New Popular Front “in each of the three constituencies concerned by these legislative elections in our city.

On the evening of this first round, there can only be one slogan: republican discipline to limit as much as possible the number of RN deputies elected on July 7.

The elected official calls on “all republican forces who do not want to see France delivered to the extreme right to withdraw in favor of the candidate best placed against the RN, either from the New Popular Front, or from the presidential majority, or from the Republicans […]. All those who do not respect this discipline would bear the historical responsibility of giving an absolute majority to the extreme right. […]. Next Sunday, the second round will be the final bulwark against the perilous adventure of the extreme right in power. Never in the history of our country will our ballot have been so decisive for our democracy.”
