The two parties have not reached an agreement for a new contract and the four-time NBA champion guard should, barring any further developments, put on another jersey for the first time in his career in the coming weeks.

Several scenarios are being considered, between a dry departure and a sign and trade. Only three teams seem to really interest Klay Thompson according to Charania, information confirmed by Marc Stein: the two Los Angeles teams, the Lakers and the Clippers, but also the Dallas Mavericks, recent NBA finalists.

Lakers in pole position

The Lakers are currently the favorites to win the record holder for 3-pointers in an NBA game. LeBron James, who is about to extend his contract with Los Angeles, has reportedly told his management that he really wants to see Klay Thompson land. It would also be a nod to history, since his father Mychal Thompson, a former No. 1 overall draft pick, played for the Lakers between 1986 and 1991, and was a champion there twice.

The historic trio that lifted the Warriors to the skies, composed of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, will therefore not end their careers under the same tunic, as many hoped.
