It is closely linked to politics because its construction was decided by the former mayor of the city, Henri Cadot, who wanted to offer some respite to the inhabitants who worked in the mine. Its last renovation dates back to 1997, the year the swimming pool was registered as a historic monument.

Other similar swimming pools exist in France but they are increasingly rare. We think in particular of its neighbor in Roubaix, which has become the La Piscine museum.
