The restrictions on the use of drinking water that had been in effect since June 26 in the territories of Quebec and L’Ancienne-Lorette were lifted six days earlier than announced.

“It is with relief that we are today lifting the restrictions on the use of drinking water which were to end on July 5, that is to say six days earlier than the deadline initially planned,” declared the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand.

Prohibited activities such as watering, cleaning and filling swimming pools are once again permitted across the country, it was announced on Saturday.

A break ruled out

On Friday, the City of Quebec ruled out the possibility of a break in the water supply pipe and the water samples taken made it possible to certify the quality of the water, the City stated in its press release.

Recommissioning the pipe also makes it possible to lift the recommendation not to consume cloudy or colored water.

Nearly 35% of citizens were affected by these restrictions in 12 different sectors due to work to repair a potential break in a major drinking water supply pipe in the Rivières sector.

To maintain the quality of drinking water and reduce the risk of cloudy water episodes, the use of drinking water for cleaning, watering and filling swimming pools had been prohibited until July 5, the scheduled date for completion of the work.
