Olympique de Marseille makes a big announcement.The Marseille club made official, on Saturday June 29, the signing of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi. The former midfielder has signed for the next three seasons with OM. He succeeds Jean-Louis Gasset on the Olympian bench.
In Marseille, Roberto De Zerbi will have his third experience abroad after spending time with Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton, his last club. “I am very happy to join Olympique de Marseille, I felt a very strong desire to join this club“, confided the new Marseille coach in a press release published by OM this Saturday.
“We are very proud to welcome Roberto to Olympique de Marseille, a talented and renowned coach at European level,” greeted OM president Pablo Longoria. The main mission of the Italian coach will be to bring back Europe to the Marseille team, 8th in Ligue 1 at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Roberto De Zerbi’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent seasons. The former Brighton coach seemed to interest several big European teams. But the technician chose to settle down in France, near Marseille. “I can’t wait to sit on the bench at the Orange Vélodrome, this time as OM coach, and help the club regain the rank that Marseille deserves“, promised the Italian.
