World champion in the 100m, 400m and 1,500m, Carabin also holds the world records in the 200m and 400m in his category. He thus shows that he is ready to compete in the Paralympic Games in August, in Paris.

Among the able-bodied athletes, Kobe Vleeminckx ran his 200m in 20.67 in the heats. This was the best Belgian time in the last five years. Simon Verherstraten, crowned in the 100m, ran 20.74 in the 200. The final will follow on Sunday.

In the pole vault, Ben Broeders triumphed with a bar of 5.65m.

In the 5,000m, Lisa Rooms ran 15:28.48 to claim the national title. While she was within 2 seconds of her personal best, her crown would more than likely give her the points needed to qualify for the Olympics via the world rankings.

Among the men, Robin Hendrix was too short to imitate Rooms, in 13:28.33.
