Grand Poitiers continues its development of soft mobility. The urban community is launching a bicycle loan offer for students, from the start of the next school year in September 2024.

Free loans that will allow student volunteers to obtain a muscle bike. Each student will be responsible for the care and maintenance of their cycle during the loan period. At the end of the rental, in the event of a malfunction of the bicycle, repairs will be the responsibility of the student. A security deposit will be put in place to cover the possible non-return of the bike.

A fleet of five hundred bicycles in the long term

A first fleet of three hundred new bicycles will be offered to students on campus in September. It will eventually be supplemented by two hundred others from the reuse sector. Several integration structures specializing in second-hand cycles could be associated, according to Frankie Angebault, vice-president in charge of mobility in Grand Poitiers.

The management service for this fleet will be entrusted to an external structure which will ensure the contractualization with the student and the integration of reconditioned bicycles from the reuse sector within the bicycle fleet. This service provider will be selected via a public procurement procedure.

Also, the university is a partner in the initiative to promote the approach among young people. Premises will be made available to the management service in the heart of the Poitiers campus, to facilitate local service with students.
