Corinne Masiero, Jeanne Balibar, Joey Starr… the Avignon festival has announced a “Night” of mobilization against the extreme right on Thursday, with several cultural figures, so that the outcome of the legislative elections is a “night of celebration” rather than “entry into resistance”.
“We are launching the ‘Nuit d’Avignon’ initiative,” said Tiago Rodrigues, the festival’s director, at a press conference, calling for “a blockade of the far right in the second round of legislative elections” on Sunday.
It is a “night of union, (…) of mobilization, a popular night”, of “debates”, bringing together, after midnight and until dawn, in the main courtyard of the Popes’ Palace, the actresses Jeanne Balibar, Andréa Bescond, Corinne Masiero, the actor and rapper Joey Starr, the director Alexis Michalik, the environmental activist Camille Etienne, among others.
“We will fight”
“For one more night, we will fight so that on the evening of July 7, Avignon enters into celebration rather than resistance.”
Alongside him, the Syndéac (artistic companies, first in the public sector) and the CGT-spectacle called for “blocking the extreme right”, via “the withdrawal of all candidates who came in third place, so as to elect any candidate from a right-wing or left-wing political party who finds himself in a duel with the RN”.
