BASEBALL. A brilliant performance from pitcher Masatoshi Sakurai allowed the Brock Nutrite Lambert to secure a 2-1 victory over the Unicanvas of Thetford Mines, Friday evening, at the Rémi-Deshaies stadium in Victoriaville.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Samuel Guilbert played the hero by producing the deciding run with a grounder. In the victory, the Drummondville team saw the opposing defense commit no fewer than four errors.
In the first round, Samuel Guilbert allowed Brock to open the scoring thanks to a groundball. The Unicanvas (4-9) tied the game in the fourth inning thanks to a single from Marc-Antoine Perron-Rousseau.
On the mound, Masatoshi Sakurai (3-3) pitched a complete game, allowing only one run on six hits and one walk. The Japanese had seven strikeouts.
Coming in relief of starter Michel Simard, Francis Michel (0-2) suffered the defeat.
The Brock (6-9) will face the Cactus (11-1) on Wednesday evening, starting at 8 p.m., in Victoriaville. Drummondville will act as the local team.
