The Washington Capitals acquired 26-year-old defenseman Jakob Chychrun on Monday, the team announced shortly before noon Monday.

In return, the Ottawa Senators acquired defenseman Nick Jensen and a third-round pick in the 2026 draft.

Chychrun’s time on Canadian soil was therefore very short, as he only played 94 games with the Senators. Acquired in return for a first-round pick from the Arizona Coyotes in 2023, Chychrun played in all 82 Senators games this year.

He totaled 14 goals and 27 assists for a total of 41 points.

Still under contract for one season at a salary of $4.6 million, Chychrun could become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024-2025 campaign.

Drafted in the first round of the 2016 draft, Chychrun has played 467 NHL games and has 76 goals and 216 points.

Matt Roy also in Washington

Then on the free agent market, the Capitals are reportedly about to sign defenseman Matt Roy to a six-year contract that will earn him an average of $5.75 million annually.

Roy is a 29-year-old rearguard who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Kings, who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2015 draft.

Last year, Roy had five goals and 25 points in 81 games.

He has 24 goals and 106 points in 369 NHL games.

The Caps also announced the signing of right wings Taylor Raddysh and Brandon Duhaime.

Raddysh, 26, will make $1 million in 2024-25. He is a former teammate of Caps center Dylan Strome in the OHL with the Erie Otters.

In 225 games in the Bettman circuit, Raddysh has 73 points (36-37). He notably scored 20 goals in 78 games in 2022-2023, his first full year in Chicago.

For his part, Duhaime signed a two-year contract that will earn him $1.85 million per year.

He played 80 games last season with the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche. He was acquired by Colorado at the trade deadline for a 2026 third-round pick.

He recorded 40 points in 211 career games.

Chychrun, Roy, Raddysh and Duhaime join Pierre-Luc Dubois and Andrew Mangiapane as recent acquisitions by the Capitals.
