the essential
They are there. Sunday afternoon, in Mazamet (Tarn), all the red and black people, all of Ariège, will push behind the Saverdunois in the final of the French championship of Fédérale 3. 55 years after the title of champion of France of 3rd division, 20 years after that won in Honor, the UAS has the opportunity to write a glorious page of its already very rich history.

Sunday afternoon, a little before 5 p.m., Federal 3 will have its epilogue. There are only two left to dream of the national shield: the Ariégeois of UA Saverdun and the Héraultais of Servian-Boujan Rugby (Hérault). This Sunday, at 3 p.m., the Stade de la Chevalière, in Mazamet, should be boiling. Thousands of supporters from both camps are expected. Already impressive in Mauvezin for the semi-final, the support of Saverdunois this afternoon should be even more important. It promises a fiery atmosphere. If Saverdun only won in the very last seconds against Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the semi-final (15-13), Servian-Boujan did not tremble for a single second by clearly dominating Vergt (37-15) , including 27 points scored by fullback Camacho. But, this afternoon, all the counters will be reset to zero.

Imitate the reserve team

On the Saverdun side, the players have been waiting for this moment for a while. They have been preparing for these final stages since the end of March. For more than a month, they have carried out a heavy physical workload to be ready and armed on D-Day. It is today. They have all the cards in hand to hope to live the dream that Team B had two years ago. Captain Sentenac’s partners will have to relieve themselves of the pressure even if there will always be a little. The start of the game will be essential. If the UAS manages to quickly take the score, without slackening in terms of intensity, the victory will be within its reach. It would be grandiose for the Basse Ariège club which, since 1969, has not played a final. Yannick Idrac, UAS forwards coach, appeals to the sixteenth man: “We want our public to come in large numbers to actively support us. We have to encourage ourselves, help and push the boys on the pitch.”
For this match, the last of a very long season, the key words will be confidence, commitment, seriousness and concentration. Mathieu Sentenac does not shy away: “It’s always the same scenario in our matches. We win at the end of the match and it’s beautiful. We don’t care about being behind, we always play the same, we keep our mindset to win in the 80th. In itself, no matter what happens in the final, we got there step by step. We just have to continue with our values. We may come across stronger with Servian-Boujan but I won’t hide it, our objective is to win the shield.
An entire city, a people in red and black is behind them to vibrate for eighty minutes and continue Saverdun’s incredible series which has reached 8 French championship finals and 8 shields. The club’s slogan for this day sums it all up: “The final and the shield at the end of the ball.” »
