The “Pride” which is being held this year in the context of the threat from the far right to the legislative elections, will have as its slogan the fight against transphobia. Meet at Porte de la Villette at 1:30 p.m.

On the eve of the first round of legislative elections that could bring the far right to power, the Paris LGBT+ pride march “promises to be mobilizing given the context”, underlines James Leperlier, president of Inter-LGBT, which is organizing the event this Saturday, June 29 in the afternoon in Paris.

According to a police source, the authorities expect 50,000 to 80,000 participants in “Pride”, which this year will have the fight against transphobia as its motto.

The procession will set off from Porte de la Villette at 1:30 p.m. to reach Place de la République where a concert is planned from 4:30 p.m., with headliners Bilal Hassani, Eddy de Pretto, Desire, Louïz and even drag Queen Piche.

The 2024 edition of the march will be dedicated to the fight against transphobia “which, as we have seen, has been commonplace for several weeks and which demands trans-solidarity in return”, underlines James Leperlier, head of Inter-LGBT which brings together around sixty associations. “The transphobic offensive has invaded public debate, anti-trans publications have multiplied, sometimes without the slightest reaction from the authorities”he added. “The Senate, for its part, voted on a text which is for us deeply criminal»he denounced, in reference to a bill aimed at regulating gender transitions before the age of 18 and adopted at the end of May by the upper house.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, attacks against LGBT+ people increased by 13% in 2023 in France compared to 2022, with even a jump of 19% for crimes and offences recorded by the police and the gendarmerie.

The SOS Homophobia association, for its part, affirmed, in a report published in May, to have recorded in 2023 a level “worrisome” of violence and discrimination suffered by LGBT+ people.

“Target of hate speech and acts of violence”

“This is just the tip of the iceberg, the list of victims of ambushes and transphobia is only getting longer: in 2024 we are still the target of hate speech and acts of violence,” according to the president of Inter-LGBT. “And this hate speech is used for electoral purposes,” he denounces, targeting the recent remarks of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, judging totally “ubuesque” the left’s proposal concerning, according to him, a “sex change, free, in town hall”.

On the eve of the first round of legislative elections, Inter-LGBT calls for voting “against the extreme right” and for “parties that put our rights and demands among their priorities.”
