Didier Digard is back at his training club. This Monday, he appointed the new coach of Le Havre, where he succeeds Luka Elsner, who joined Reims.

Le Havre officially has its new coach. A week after the departure of Luka Elsner to Reims, the oldest club formalized, this Monday, the appointment of Didier Digard as team coach. “After wearing the Cielamp;Marine colors at La Cavée and during his debut as a professional player, Didier Digard will defend them from the bench: he has just been appointed coach of the Ligue 1 team.we can read in the official press release from the HAC, 15th of the last Ligue 1 financial year. The former manager of the elite group of OGC Nice, who worked for the Aiglons from January to June 2023 as interim coach after the departure of Lucien Favre, has just obtained his BEPF and will therefore evolve in a familiar environment with his new costume.

The reception of PSG to begin

Indeed, between 2004 and 2007, during his playing career, Digard played in Le Havre as a defensive midfielder, scoring 4 goals in 79 matches played. Passed by Paris-Saint-Germain (2007-2008) and Nice (2010-2015) in his playing career, Digard was praised for his relationship with the players during his short stint on the Aiglons bench. Having obtained its BEPF, moreover, will allow HAC to avoid paying the 25,000 euro fine reserved for Ligue 1 clubs employing a coach who does not have this famous certificate. In Ligue 1, this was notably the case for Will Still, in Reims. “Le Havre and Didier Digard, it’s a long story. Born in Gisors, in Eure, on July 12, 1986, he joined La Cavée at the age of twelve. Six years later, in 2004, he signed his first professional contract with Cielamp;Marine and, for three seasons, defended the colors of the first team (72 Ligue 2 matches, 5 Coupe de France, 5 Coupe de la Ligue, for 4 goals in total). International U16 in Espoirs, this midfielder left HAC in 2007 for PSG. His career then took him from Middlesbrough to Betis Seville, via Nice and Osasuna. Didier Digard hung up his boots in 2018 after a few matches with Lorca (Spanish second division). And it was in Nice that he learned the coaching profession, with young people first, before tasting Ligue 1”, notes Le HAC in its official press release.

Desired by Mathieu Bodmer (sports director), Didier Digard will be tasked with keeping Le Havre in the elite for the second consecutive season.. The 2024-2025 financial year will begin with the reception of PSG in Ligue 1, the weekend of August 17.
