Ain, Allier, Cantal, Loire, Puy-de-Dôme, Rhône… A total of six departments in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region are placed on orange storm alert this Saturday June 29, 2024, by Météo France. Bad weather is forecast during the afternoon, the first lightning will hit southern Auvergne around 2 p.m.

The sky will rumble over the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Six departments were placed on orange vigilance by Météo France, this Saturday June 29, 2024: Cantal, Ain, Puy-de-Dôme, Allier, Loire and Rhône.

After a fairly calm morning, the stormy deterioration will make its entrance through the south of Auvergne, in Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme, placed on orange alert from 2 p.m. It “will quickly reach the north of the region“, specifies Météo France.

However, Puy-de-Dôme will remain on orange alert until 8 p.m. The end of orange alert is scheduled for 6 p.m. for Cantal, but the department will remain on yellow alert until 9 p.m.

Hail can accompany thunderstorms,2 to 3 centimeters“and heavy rainfall is expected. Up to 50 millimetres could fall in some places and”in a short time“, adds the meteorological organization. The wind will blow strong with gusts reaching 80 to 100 km/h.

The storms will then spread to the north of Rhône-Alpes during the afternoon. The Loire and Rhône will be placed on orange alert from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Allier and Ain will be affected by the alert from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. Ain will remain on yellow alert until 11 p.m.

“In this type of stormy situation, the zoning and chronology are difficult to assess precisely, but all sectors of the departments on orange alert are potentially affected”warns Météo France in its latest vigilance bulletin updated at 11 a.m.

However, in the Loire and Rhône departments, “the areas of the Roanne plain and Beaujolais seem more likely to be affected by the violent storms than the Saint-Etienne and Lyon urban areas”predicts the meteorological institute, which specifies that the disturbance will evacuate through the north of the region “at the latest around 9 p.m., 10 p.m.“.

This stormy degradation will be accompanied by “potentially violent phenomena”. The meteorological agency predicts “a remarkable stormy episode” and invites “to particular vigilance given the intensity of the predicted phenomena“.

In the six other departments of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes on yellow alert (Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Haute-Loire), thunderstorms are possible but less virulent.

“A few strong storms can overflow towards the Savoyard forelands, but these sectors are fairly protected by the foehn”explains Météo France.
