At La Fourche, we saw things on a grand scale for this three-day weekend.

Indeed, La Fourche has partnered with 2Spirit Manitoba and the Tunngasugit Inuit Resource Centre to offer a varied cultural program.

From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday 1isshows and activities will follow one another without interruption throughout the site.

The program includes concerts, dance shows, and also a basketball tournament that will take place over three days, ending on Monday with a visit from the Sea Bears.

A few meters away, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) will open its doors free of charge on Sunday, June 30, like every Sunday. On the other hand, to mark Canada Day, it will also be on Monday 1is.

That day, knowledge keeper Marilyn Dykstra will lead a workshop on making miniature ribbon skirts, shirts and pants.

In Indigenous culture, ribbon clothing, especially skirts, allows the wearer to connect with the land. They are also a symbol of the resilience of Indigenous women.

The Lower Fort Garry Historic Site will also be accessible free of charge for those who wish to spend Canada Day as they did in the fur trade era. During the summer season, thanks to a team of passionate interpreters, the Fort comes alive and comes to life. The interpreters are dressed as they were in the days of the Hudson’s Bay Company and recreate historical trades.

The day will end with the tasting of a cake, and the national anthem which will be sung at La Grande Maison.
