Johan Djourou (37 years old) joins the Swiss women’s team. The former international defender has been appointed sports coordinator of the national A team.

The Genevan, who has played 76 times for the Swiss national team and has notably worn the jersey of Arsenal and SV Hamburg, will bring his experience to the group that will play Euro 2025 on home soil. In addition to his work with the team led by Sweden’s Pia Sundhage, Djourou will also work as a project manager for the Footura+ impulse programme as part of the legacy of the Women’s Euro in Switzerland.

“I already had the opportunity to experience a Euro in Switzerland in 2008 as a player. I would like it to be a great celebration for everyone: the population, the supporters, our players and, above all, the young girls of this country who dream of seeing their idols. The aim is for this Euro at home to leave a lasting impression on women’s football in Switzerland,” said Johan Djourou – who also plays a consultant role at RTS for the Swiss men’s team – in the press release released by the Swiss Football Association.
