Rennes: discover in pictures this future school which will open at the start of the 2024 school year in a new district

It’s here fourth creation school in Rennes since 2021. In the Baud-Chardonnet district, east of the city center, local residents will now be able to take their children a few hundred meters from home thanks to the delivery of the Miriam Makeba school group for the 2024 school year.

300 students, 12 classes

180 children will therefore take their first steps in this new establishment in September 2024. Ultimately, these are nearly 300 students which can be well received thanks to the 12 equipped classes: five nursery classes (from the small to the big section) and seven in elementary (from CP to CM2).

It allows toreduce Marcel Pagnol’s workforce (Jeanne d’Arc district) including 107 children will join Miriam Makeba at the start of the school year.

13.5 million euros

The operation required an investment of 13.5 million eurosfinanced by the City of Rennes. The school was delivered a year late. According to city officials, one of the companies responsible for the structural work went bankrupt. It was therefore necessary to find a replacement.

Present at the press visit, Gaëlle Rougier, 2nd Deputy Delegate for Education, recalls that “schools are the first investment item of the City ». She adds: “That’s 82 million euros on the mandate, not including the envelope for maintenance and repairs. »

A neighborhood still under construction

The Miriam Makeba school group is located in the immediate vicinity of Assia Djebar Square and its water tower. It is located behind The Oasisthe commercial heart of the district, where we will notably find the Lidl store.

It is bordered to the west by rue Rose-Valland, which will ultimately lead to the edge of Vilaine, and to the east by a landscaped park which still needs to be landscaped to hide the view of the current bus depot. Housing and businesses will complete the immediate surroundings in the coming years.

A school group with many facilities

It is made up of the following spaces:

• The “nursery” center: on the ground floor, it includes five classrooms, two workshopstwo dormitoriesa motor skills room and adjoining premises with a surface area of ​​approximately 680 m².
• The “elementary” center: located on the 1st floor, it includes seven classes, two specialized rooms.
• And documentary centerwhich benefits from exterior access onto a terrace overlooking a vegetalized roof and ancillary premises (for a surface area of ​​675 m²).
• The after-school center: dedicated to children’s activities in the morning, midday and evening, it offers two reception rooms (for a surface area of ​​135 m²).

• The catering center: either two dining rooms (for nursery and elementary school students), the staff dining room, the office and washing rooms (for an area of ​​approximately 480 m²).
• The common pole: it integrates the entrance hall, a space for administration (offices, teachers’ room, tea room) and certain annexes and logistics premises (for a surface area of ​​approximately 540 m²).
• The shared spaces center: open to residents of the neighborhood, it offers a “parents space”, a multipurpose room, a physical education and sports room and ancillary premises (for a surface area of ​​approximately 340 m²).

A sports arena open to the public

The exterior fittings consist of courtyards and playgrounds distributed between the ground floor for kindergarten students and the 1st floor for elementary students. A sports area is also set up to the north-east of the plot with independent access from the public space.

The courses offer areas with varied uses: classic play structures, wooden furniture, quieter and shaded spaces, topography games, courses, etc. promoting their appropriation by all children.
