A new Parish City will be built in the center of Lagny-sur-Marne (77), main town of the parish of Val-de-Lagny which brings together 6 bell towers spread over 5 municipalities.

This parish city will replace the current parish center installed near the Notre-Dame des Ardents abbey church, “jewel of 13th century Gothic architectureth century “, as indicated by a plaque on the facade. We can also read that “Joan of Arc’s prayer to Our Lady of the Ardents obtained a unique miracle in her life in 1430, the resurrection of a child from Lagny, who had been dead for 3 days.”

Abbey Church of Notre Dame des Ardents and Saint Pierre, Lagny-sur-Marne (77)

It was in 1950 that the congregation of rites authorized the church to take the name of Notre-Dame des Ardents and Saint-Pierre.

“Building this parish city is a real opportunity for our community and its missionary development,” explains Father Alain Gambart, parish priest of Val-de-Lagny. The dilapidated state and small number of parish halls currently available for reception, secretariat and activities do not allow the implementation of the three pastoral priorities: easily accessible reception, young people and people in difficulty. Creating a breakfast “The little café at 35” to the attention of these people testifies to the motivation of the parish.

Four transformed buildings

Project plan

THE creation and renovation work of the parish city concern the four existing buildings: Don Bosco, Joan of Arc, Saint-Pierre and Saint-Furcy.
They occupy 1,240 m2or a little more than half of the surface of the land.

The work carried out on the Don Bosco and Joan of Arc buildings is intended to develop youth activities. Don Bosco will welcome the “Patronage of the Source” recently created. The Joan of Arc building will benefit from a total renovation and be used for catechism, chaplaincy for altar boys, students and scouts. Young people will thus be able to have more space both for indoor activities and outdoor games. The cost of the work undertaken on these two buildings represents two thirds of the total.

The third third of the work concerns the other two buildings. Saint-Pierre remains reserved primarily for reception and offices (secretarial, accounting). The reception will go down from the first floor to the ground floor with an entrance on the street very visible through a portal. New meeting rooms will be added. The facade of the Saint-Furcy building is sinking and dragging down the frame. It will be replaced by a wooden structure like the facade of the Joan of Arc building.

Completion of work planned in two stages

The completed project (architect’s view)

The end of work on the Don Bosco and Joan of Arc buildings is scheduled for June 2026. That of the Saint-Pierre and Saint-Furcy buildings is scheduled in June 2028.

The conclusion belongs to Father Gambart: “We can only succeed in this project together, in a beautiful surge of faith in God, for our young people, our families and for all those who need the services of the Church.”.
