Best cheeses in Quebec: Le P’tit Blanchon finalist

Le P’tit Blanchon, from Fromagerie du Littoral in Baie-des-Sables, is once again among the finalists in the Sélection Caseus competition to designate the best cheeses in Quebec in 2024.

It was selected after being evaluated by a jury of 25 experts representing the various sectors of the cheese sector.

Out of 197 cheeses judged, 63 from 29 companies were selected for the final stage. They have the chance to win one of the prestigious Caseus awards, including the Caseus Gold, which will crown the best cheese in Quebec.

In total, the jury will award 24 prizes and two special mentions during an event planned for September 25 at the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec.

A fresh cheese made from pasteurized whole milk from cows on the Fromagerie du Littoral farm, Le P’tit Blanchon was also selected for the Sélection Caseus competition in 2022.

Distribution nationale

Recently, the Baie-des-Sables cheese factory confirmed a national distribution partnership with the Sobeys banner, making it possible to offer Le P’tit Blanchon, but also another of its cheeses, La Perle, in all IGAs in Quebec.

Two other cheeses from Bas-Saint-Laurent are among the finalists in the Sélection Caseus competition, namely Gray Owl, a goat’s milk cheese with a flowery rind from Fromagerie Le Détour in Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac, and Le Cormoran, a blue-veined cheese from Fromagerie Le Mouton Blanc in La Pocatière.

Created in 1998, Sélection Caseus is the only competition dedicated to the recognition and promotion of cheeses produced in the province, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as well as the Institute of Technology agri-food industry in Quebec.
