2024 legislative elections

Very high participation, sharply increasing triangulars and a record number of candidates elected in the first round. Seventy-six candidates obtained more than 50% of the votes in the early legislative elections this Sunday, June 30, thus avoiding the prospect of a second round on July 7. Among them, nearly 40 National Rally deputies and around thirty candidates from the New Popular Front have already won their seats on the benches of the National Assembly.

On the National Rally side, Marine Le Pen very quickly announced her re-election in the first round in the 11th constituency of Pas-de-Calais. Just like the former vice-president of the National Assembly Sébastien Chenu and the former deputy of Yonne Julien Odoul.

Personalities little known to the general public are also entering the Palais Bourbon this Sunday evening, for example Bruno Clavet, elected in the third constituency of Pas-de-Calais and Guillaume Florquin, secretary general of the RN group at the Hauts-de regional council. -France, which eliminated the leader of the Communist Party Fabien Roussel in the 20th constituency in the North.

Number of LFI candidates find their seats

Many La France insoumise candidates were also elected in the first round. This is the case of the former leader of the rebellious deputies Mathilde Panot in Val-de-Marne, Clémentine Autain in Seine-Saint-Denis, the national coordinator of the party Manuel Bompard, the former president of the Finance Committee Eric Coquerel and Sébastien Delogu in Bouches-du-Rhône.

Within the left alliance of the New Popular Front, the ecologists Sandrine Rousseau (Paris), Marie-Charlotte Garin (Rhône) and the socialists Olivier Faure (Seine-et-Marne) and Isabelle Santiago (Val- de-Marne).

Few deputies from the majority were elected this Sunday, but let us cite two of them: Mikaele Seo (Wallis-et-Futuna) and Pierre Cazeneuve (Hauts-de-Seine). The same goes for the Republicans, among the few to save his seat this Sunday, June 30, is Philippe Juvin in his Hauts-de-Seine constituency.

In 2022, only five candidates were elected in the first round. If the figure is increasing this Sunday, it is linked to the sharp increase in participation and the voting method. To be elected in the first round, a candidate must obtain the majority of votes but at least 25% of those registered in his constituency. These conditions are easier to obtain when participation is high.
