Artist Vaughn Benjamin, who has long represented the voice of Midnite and later Akae Beka, will soon be honored with the construction of a memorial and park on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Vaughn Benjamin was born in Antigua and moved to St. Croix when he was 8 years old. With his brother Ron, he managed, through this unique roots reggae sound, to leave an indelible mark in the history of reggae. Sometimes called a philosopher, a teacher, a prophet and more, his passing in 2019 left legions of fans in shock.

To honor this charismatic, wise and mystical figure, the Virgin Islands Legislative Assembly passed legislation to posthumously recognize his contribution to reggae music in the Virgin Islands and around the world. The act provides $45,000 to the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation for the design and construction of a Monument Vaughn Benjamin and a Vaughn Memorial Park “Akae Beka”.

Belle initiative.

To remember or discover this artist, we offer you a mystical encounter with him made on the occasion of his visit to Reggae Sun Ska in 2014, to see or rewatch here => https://reggae.fr/voir- video/2909_Midnite—mystical-encounter-.html
