Touba, June 28 (APS) – The rainwater drainage network of the town of Touba (center) was cleared of garbage over several kilometers, in preparation for wintering, thanks to the operation called “72 hours” cleaning gutters.

Initiated by the National Sanitation Office of Senegal (ONAS) in partnership with the Touba mosque town hall and the “Touba ça Kanam” association, this operation began last Wednesday, said Mamadou Mbacké Fall, supervisor at the ONAS office in Touba.

”Wednesday and Thursday, we cleaned several kilometers of the town’s rainwater drainage network. This augurs that we will be able to have a peaceful winter, if such operations are increased between now and the winter,” he declared.

He expressed his satisfaction not without fearing that “garbage will once again be thrown into the canal which crosses the main axis of the Ocass market”.

“If we clean and people put dirt back in the gutters, we will continue to have problems during the winter,” he warned, stressing that ONAS and the town hall are considering setting up a monitoring system for the rainwater drainage network in the city of Touba.

Mamadou Mbacké Fall also deplored the constructions on the gutters and rainwater drainage channels of Touba.

He indicated that the cleaning operation of another 14 kilometers of the Touba network will be carried out entirely by ONAS.

The Dahira Khidma of the Ocass market, street vendors, the Ocass market group, members of the Association of Traders and Industrialists of Senegal (ASIS) and the Touba plumbers association, among others, participated in the cleaning operations, particularly of the Ocass market canal.
