For several years, the episcopal city has been increasing the number of good addresses for art lovers.
Páou restaurant
For small appetites, quickly and easily, a new little bistro is making waves on a picture-postcard square in the Roquette district. A retro storefront, 4 or 5 tables set up on the cobblestones, and all the demands of good products. A young, highly motivated team in the kitchen and in the dining room.
Páou, 22 place Paul Doumer, 13200 Arles. Tel.: 09.86.77.25.64.
Inari
It is in an old chapel, a stone’s throw from the arenas, that Céline Pham, a dubbed chef of the Parisian foodosphere, moved last summer. Now in the front row of the region’s markets, she unfolds the best of the Provençal terroir that she twists like no one else with her Vietnamese roots. Freshness and comfort for a fusion cuisine worthy of the name.
Inari, 16 place Voltaire, 13200 Arles. Tel.: 09.82.27.28.33. Menus at €35 and €41 for lunch, €65 in the evening.
Hotel Present
It is the intimate den (13 rooms) for amateurs, who find here an aesthetic that is the opposite of the Camargue codes. Architecture (signed Pierre Vago), radical lines (all the modernist codes of the 1950s) and designer pieces (Marcel Breuer, etc.) which stand out from the omnipresent rosewood walls. No swimming pool but a library, a good chef, and a rooftop imagined as a pool… without water.
Hôtel Present, 5 place Voltaire, 13200 Arles. Tel.: 04.90.49.58.98. From €120 per night.
CirCa
All the region’s aesthetes come here to look for furniture from the greatest designers, signed ceramics and restoration of “homemade” furniture. An institution.
CirCa, 2 rue de la Roquette, 13200 Arles. Tel.: 04.90.93.2615.
Flowered armchair
Fanny Fontaine, a true Arlesian, cultivates a love of decoration and vintage. In her small concept store, not far from the Van Gogh Foundation, she tastefully mixes second-hand objects, tableware, Vallauris ceramics, small furniture, embroidered household linen, fashion accessories and Provençal wardrobe.
Flowered armchair, 7 rue du Pont, 13200 Arles.
Mazette!
This is the HQ of the Arlesians from the morning. Lucie, a former makeup artist for TV sets, opened her coffee shop with specialty coffees. We also go there for the matchas and chai lattes with vegetable milk (the only spot in Arles), accompanied by a avocado toast or a homemade pastry. Baby latte (only milk foam) and play area for children.
Mazette, 8 place Antonelle, 13200 Arles. Tel.: 06.46.66.71.30.
Camargue Social Club
Opposite his excellent restaurant set up in a former butcher’s shop, Dimitri has imagined a Camargue tapas bar with a fine selection of wines, accompanied by bull empanadas or a twisted red rice. It’s trendy and good-natured, with a competitive playlist, live gypsy music, in a magnificent setting with a floor inspired by the nearby salt marshes. Open seven days a week!
Camargue Social Club, 22 rue de l’Hôtel de ville, 13200 Arles. Tel.: 04.90.97.22.69.
