Of the Grand Cru Coffees, teas and hot chocolates, but also homemade pastries made with love and know-how. This is the proposal of Giagiale premier coffee shop (or tea room in French, Editor’s note) to open its doors to Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines).

A “Flash of Genius”

At the initiative of the project: Claire Tanguy. “I absolutely wanted to open a business like this, because I noticed that there were only breweries, but no tea rooms. The banks of the Seine are nevertheless conducive to activity,” confides this former Herblaysienne, who has lived in Conflans for five years.

Although this is her first business, Claire knows the restaurant business very well, having been in charge of it for a long time within the Lucien Barriere group (owner of the Grand Hotel and the casino in Enghien-les-Bains, among others, Editor’s note), and that she also worked for the pastry chef Christophe Adam, the owner of the L’Éclair de Génie boutiques. During the health crisis Covid-19Claire Tanguy even turned to collective catering on behalf of the Korian group (owner of a chain of clinics and nursing homes).

The opening of Giagia was a long journey for Claire Tanguy. “At the beginning I had to settle down Maurice-Bertaux street in place of Maisons France Confort, but the project did not come to fruition due to a problem linked to emergency exits in the premises. Then, I struggled a lot to find funding,” she recalls. So much so that she even had time to write a roman on the real Giagia. “She was the Grandmother of my husband, who is of nationality Greek. She always spoke very loudly and she had a lot of character. But what struck me was his passion for the cuisine“There was always food at her house,” smiles the restaurateur.

Original recipes, activities and products

After having carried out a great campaign of crowdfundingand benefited from a “women’s equality” guarantee, a system intended to promote female entrepreneurship, by facilitating women’s access to bank credit, Giagia was finally able to see the light of day at the beginning of May. And very quickly, grandmother’s little treats were able to build a loyal customer base.

Chestnut cakecarrot or lemon-poppy seed cake with its dripping icing, cookies vegan olive oil-dark chocolate-fleur de sel, salty Tart with red onion compote and goat cheese-honey duo, etc. Claire’s creations are all particularly original. They can be accompanied by yvelinois yogurts i-grecConflanese cafes Friday and unusual fruit and vegetable juices (beets, apples, strawberries, guavas, violets) or latte gourmand with vegetable milk. All to be enjoyed outdoors in the outdoor greek garden or in the beautifully decorated tea room, equipped with Wi-Fi and of electrical outlets on each bench “for those who want telework ».

Several equally unusual activities are also offered at Giagia: Wednesday mornings with the family, “effort and comfort” Saturdays with abs sessions to eliminate abuses, workshops baby massages. “I would also like to propose some brunches soon,” concludes Claire Tanguy.

In short, an ideal place to have a good time.
