The choreographer of the Dance of the Olympic Games is currently in residence at the Scène de Bayssan, in Béziers, where he is preparing “Beauséjour”, his latest creation.
“Beauséjour”. This is the name of the new show by Mourad Merzouki, one of the most prominent choreographers of the moment. And it is in Béziers that he is preparing. For two weeks, the dancers rehearse tirelessly, before playing their premiere in the amphitheater of the Scène de Bayssan.
This new show sets in motion a theme rarely shown in dance: aging. The setting is a guinguette, the music is by Gotan Project. Here, the bodies evoke emotion more than performance. “We often fantasize what the dancer or the athlete must be, affirms Mourad Merzouki. I finally tell myself that beauty can be looked at differently, seen elsewhere. The body changes, and suddenly we have another way of moving, and this other way can be just as beautiful.”
Tango tunes and hip-hop gestures. An openness that Mourad Merzouki has been cultivating for over 30 years.

“We are occupied, morning and evening, we are always thinking about what we are going to propose to the artistic teams. A lot is expected of me, of what I am going to ask of the whole team, and for that, I have to prepare myself psychologically.”
Places are being counted for the preview of “Beauséjour” in Béziers, Saturday June 29. Then, the creation will leave for Lyon for the Fourvière nights.
