Drug war: a man arrested in connection with an attempted murder in Lévis

A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with an attempted murder committed in Lévis at the beginning of June. The event would have taken place as part of the war within organized crime for control of territory in the greater Quebec region.

On June 4 at around 11:40 p.m., two armed suspects presented themselves in front of a residence located on Saint-Joseph Street, in Lévis. One of them is said to have peppered the house with bullets from a military caliber weapon.

“It is linked to the conflict that we have been experiencing in recent months,” explains François Gagnon, spokesperson for the Police Department of the City of Lévis (SPVL). They didn’t do this randomly: the victim who was in the house is known to the police.”

Weapon found

Following this event, the SPVL opened an investigation to find the alleged attackers.

On Wednesday, an operation carried out jointly by the tactical intervention group of the Sûreté du Québec made it possible to lay hands on the collar of Christophe Magnant, 22, at his residence located in Saint-Charles-Borromée, near Joliette, in Lanaudière.

At the scene, police found a .12 caliber weapon and its ammunition, as well as the clothing the suspect was wearing while driving during the shooting. They were also able to confiscate 2,000 counterfeit hydromorphone tablets, a powerful opiate.

Offshore Shooter

The investigation continues to catch the second person involved in this case, the alleged shooter.

“This is an encouraging first step. We found the weapon, but we still have to find the person who held it that day,” continues François Gagnon.

For his part, Christophe Magnant appeared Wednesday at the Joliette courthouse. He is expected to return to court this afternoon, Thursday.

The 20-year-old faces a charge of possession of a prohibited weapon. New charges could be added in connection with the attempted murder in which he allegedly took part, according to the SPVL spokesperson.
