Besançon. A feminist reading in the face of the “danger of the return of reactionary forces”

This Thursday, June 27, around ten women, activists and citizens, gathered at 7 p.m. at Place du 8-Septembre to read feminist texts. Objective: “to alert”, “to invite reflection” on “the dangers of a return of reactionary and patriarchal forces” ahead of the elections of June 30 and July 7.

“Wherever the far right has come to power, there has been a decline in the rights of women from gender minorities. When we look at what RN deputies vote for, it is either against women’s rights or if it is for it, it is in the minority. That’s not satisfactory. Women victims of sexual exploitation are often migrants: the harsher we have migration policies, the less protection we have,” worries Sarah El Hamdani, employee for the Mouvement du Nid.

Poet, Cathy Jurado believes that the right to abortion could be threatened in the event of a victory for the RN. If constitutionalization “guarantees in the law to preserve this right, it does not guarantee broad and equitable access”, underlines the activist who also attacks “the Macronist movement”. “We are far from achieving equality and the issue of sexist and sexual violence. There is clearly a position to protect male attackers. We are very worried about the future.”
