The La Matanie Quad Club announces a new project for the region’s off-road community, the Chic-Chocs Observatory. The initiative is valued at $350,000.

The observatory is intended to be a meeting place for off-road vehicle enthusiasts and a place to contemplate the Chic-Chocs mountains.

“We see that the Chic-Chocs are relatively unknown in the region for many people. There is therefore a possibility of putting this forward much more and of putting the notion between mountains and tides of La Matanie in evidence,” says Alain Desmeules of the Quad Club.

People will be able to see the extent of the mountainous landscape from the top of a tower located on Mont Vélo in St-Jean-De-Cherbourg.

“The place is unique, it allows you to see the Chic-Chocs from Lac Matane to Cap-Chat. A significant part of the Chic-Chocs is with us and we forget it too often,” comments Alain Desmeules.

The site aims to promote the tourist and socio-economic potential of La Matanie by combining exploration, sharing and the practice of motorized sports. It will be easily accessible to quad riders, snowmobilers and motorcycle enthusiasts, as well as walkers and the general population. Cars will also be able to go there and parking will be provided.

More information will be shared soon by the La Matanie Quad Club, such as the start of the work and the precise location.

This project is made possible mainly thanks to the collaboration of the Quad Club, the Snowmobile Lovers Club and the Chic-Chocs Adventure Motorcycle Club. Other partners include Matanie Economic Development, the municipality of Saint-Jean-de-Cherbourg, the MRC of La Matanie, the Fédération Québécoise des Motos Hors Route (FQMHR), the Association des clubs Quads du Bas-St-Laurent and the Caisse populaire Desjardins de La Matanie.
