By finishing just a stone’s throw from the podium (9th in 2019, 6th in 2022), the Halles de Niort were bound to end up winning the title of “most beautiful market in France”. It’s been done since 1 p.m., this Thursday, June 27. The result was announced by Marie-Sophie Lacarrau during the midday news of TF1, organizer of the competition.

Already the day before, a truck equipped with a large satellite dish had come to park at Place du Donjon, suggesting good news for the market halls of Niort. The good news came from the mouth of Thierry Coiffier, TF1 journalist, dispatched to the site: If I tell you that we are near 19th century market halls which adjoin a 12th century dungeon, we are Marie-Sophie… we are in Niort .

“Without all the people of Niort”

And Thierry Coiffier announced Niort winner of the 7th season of the most market in France”, under the cheers of the crowd gathered on the square. First interviewed, David Videira, president of the SEM des Halles, declared that this title would not exist without all the people of Niort and their attachment to their market .

A tour of the halls later, Thierry Coiffier returns to the square where he meets the mayor of Niort, Jérôme Baloge. Which can only be pleased with this title. This is our third participation and each time we have gone up a notch. Today, we win the title, it’s a great reward for all the people of Niort .

No parachute but an invitation

To Thierry Coiffier who reminds him that the mayor of Réole, last year’s winner, had promised to parachute, Jérôme Baloge addresses Marie-Sophie Lacarrau, inviting her to come and taste good local products in the Deux-Sévrienne prefecture. The ceremony ended with a second round of applause. The next Niort market is held on Saturday.
