Exhibition: Rest with you

On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of Jean Cocteau’s death, the museum that he himself designed as a testimony to his art is being restored to its historic layout.

Jean Cocteau died on October 11, 1963, leaving a work as rich as it is incredibly varied. The question of his posterity and the future of his art was one of the main concerns of the artist in his last years, and Menton offered him the solution by offering him the Bastion to set up his museum. In this showcase, decorated by Cocteau himself, he wanted to exhibit some of the most emblematic works of his dazzling career: colorful pastels, monumental tapestries, astonishing paintings and daring ceramics make up the original collection of this true testament museum… Without forgetting the famous “Amoureux” series, drawings which perfectly embody the artist’s Mediterranean inspiration. Sixty years after the death of the Prince of Poets, the Jean Cocteau-le Bastion Museum returned to exhibit his historic work, paying a vibrant tribute to his patron artist, repeating the words he wanted inscribed on his tombstone: “I remain with you “.
