POLITICS – Shared headgear. In an interview with Telegram published this Wednesday, June 26 in the evening, the leader of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, outlined the outlines of cohabitation between Emmanuel Macron and Jordan Bardella if he is elected during the legislative elections which begin on June 30.

“Chief of the armies, for the President (of the Republic), it is an honorary title since it is the Prime Minister who holds the purse strings”first estimated Marine Le Pen, referring to article 20 of the Constitution which provides that the government “determines and conducts the policy of the Nation. He has the administration and the armed forces at his disposal.”

Articles 15 and 21

Once she had read the Constitution, the woman who displayed absolute confidence in Jordan Bardella indicated that the president of the RN had asked “red lines” to Emmanuel Macron on the war in Ukraine. Without wanting “pick a quarrel with him”, “the president will not be able to send troops to Ukraine”, she said again in this interview with the Breton daily newspaper.

A “breaking of the taboo”

Emmanuel Macron opened the debate on sending Western soldiers to Ukraine in February, refusing to exclude the option.

He was initially warmly welcomed before seeing allies – the Czech Republic, Poland and the Baltic States in particular – join him. Some observers considered that the question was no longer if, but when, European soldiers will be deployed, welcoming a “ breaking the taboo » and pleading to maintain “ strategic ambiguity » which consists of hiding from your enemy what you are not ready to do.

During a presentation in Paris of his program for the legislative elections, Jordan Bardella indicated on Monday that he was on the contrary “ sending (French) troops to Ukrainian soil » a “ very clear red line ». “I do not intend to create the conditions or implement” such a project, he added, arguing that it was “ (in) position » et « that of (its) movement » policy.
