France’s first rabbit park to open in Rouen

Tuesday July 2, the city of Rouen will inaugurate the first park dedicated to rabbits in France. Guinea pigs will also be welcome to come and enjoy this secure space.

A place dedicated to laying rabbits. A “lapiparc”, a park dedicated to these small rodents, will open Tuesday July 2 in Rouen in the heart of the Saint-Sever garden, reveals Paris-Normandie. An unusual project that was chosen by citizens as part of the participatory budget.

In total, 70m2 will accommodate rabbits, but also guinea pigs. Developments made by children with disabilities from the IME “Le Chant du loup” will even be installed there.

For the safety of rodents, dogs will be prohibited in their dedicated space.

A “meeting place”

At the initiative of the project, Justine, who told the local newspaper that she wanted to create “an intergenerational meeting place”. Activities will be regularly organized around animals, particularly with veterinarians.

The owner of several rabbits herself, she carried the project from A to Z. A Facebook group, “Bunny meetings in Rouen” was even created to promote links between owners.

For the municipality, this is also an opportunity to see the birth of a space “conducive to living together and animal well-being”, explains Frédéric Marchand, deputy mayor in charge of the left bank sector, to Paris-Normandie.

Although few people in Rouen are aware of the inauguration of the lapiparc, some already see it as a great project, particularly rabbit owners who will be able to bring their animals there.

The inauguration is scheduled for Tuesday, at 4:45 p.m., in the presence of a team from the Callna veterinary clinic.
