A couple and their 18-year-old son came face to face with a burglar in their garden. They managed to subdue him while waiting for the police to arrive. He was brought before the Angoulême public prosecutor’s office on Saturday 29 June.
It was a classic evening in the Houmeau district of Angoulême (Charente). A family, made up of a 41-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman and their 18-year-old son, were at home on Thursday June 27 in the evening, when they heard a suspicious noise coming from their garden in the around 10:45 p.m., reports France 3.
While we hear more and more about homejacking, particularly of public figures such as American star Kim Kardashian in Paris in 2016, or presenter Nikos Aliagas, the family was not terrified by the idea that someone had broken into their home without being invited. The couple and their son then went into their garden and came face to face with a burglar. All three of them threw themselves on the man and managed to subdue him, not without difficulty, before calling the police. However, it is advisable not to try to intervene in case the malicious individual could be violent, and to simply call the police.

The police quickly arrived on the scene and took the burglar into custody. He is a 44-year-old man who is already known to the police and the courts for thefts and burglaries. After 48 hours in police custody, he was brought before the Angoulême public prosecutor’s office on Saturday afternoon, June 29, to determine whether he should be placed under judicial supervision or in pre-trial detention pending trial.
