A man died in hospital after being stabbed outside Jane subway station in northwest Toronto shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say there was an argument between people and then a man was stabbed near where the buses stop.

Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police were still trying to contact his relatives late Tuesday evening.

A man and woman fled west on Bloor Street, according to Detective Sergeant Jason Davis. He did not immediately provide their description.

The CEO Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Commissioner Rick Leary offered his condolences to the victim’s loved ones.

Like everyone, we were shocked and saddened to learn of the death of a person stabbed today during an attack at our Jane station.he said on X in addition to assuring the police of the full collaboration of the CTT.

Subways did not stop at Jane station in the evening due to the police investigation.

Mr. Leary declared that the safety of users and employees at the CTT was primordial.

Authorities are asking anyone who has information or images relevant to the investigation to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

In recent years, violent events on public transportation in Toronto have caused a lot of concern and insecurity among the population, but the attacks were less frequent recently than in 2023.
