Legislative elections: 20 duels and 2 triangulars… discover the candidates for the second round in Languedoc-Roussillon and Aveyron

Those who qualified for the second round had until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, to confirm their candidacy. 14 three-way races were possible in the former Languedoc-Roussillon and Aveyron, but in the end there will only be 2.

The game is over. Those who qualified for the second round of the legislative elections had until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, to confirm their candidacy at the prefecture*. In the regions as everywhere in France, we could have prepared for a record number of three-way races, after the high turnout in the first round, but the withdrawals of representatives of the left or the presidential majority Ensemble! in order to fight against the National Rally (more than 200 nationwide), have considerably changed the landscape of this second round.

Thus, in the former Languedoc-Roussillon and Aveyron, where 14 three-way races were possible out of 22 constituencies still in play (4 having been settled in the first round), we will finally see 20 duels for 2 three-way races on Sunday, one in Lozère, the other in the 6th constituency of Hérault where the outgoing Emmanuelle Ménard is in an unfavourable position.

Minister Patricia Miralles, who came third in the 1st constituency of Hérault, made us wait a long time for her decision, but finally announced, around 4 p.m. this Tuesday, that she was also withdrawing from the game, “in a republican spirit”.

These withdrawals could slow the expansion of the National Rally, even if it remains best placed to win a maximum number of seats in the region.

And elsewhere in the region

The number of three-way races will be higher on the other side of the region, particularly in Haute-Garonne, where of the nine constituencies still in play, four still have three candidates. If Minister Dominique Faure finally withdrew from the 10th constituency,at the request of Emmanuel Macron”the candidate Ensemble!, Florian Delrieu has decided to remain in the 9th constituency, despite his 3rd place “2 points from the RN”he justifies. In the other three triangular races, the RN came 3rd and is therefore not able to maintain itself.

On the other hand, in the Lot, the Renaissance candidate Huguette Tiegna, also 3rd in the 2nd constituency, refused to withdraw, despite the call of her party, at the risk of favoring the victory of the National Rally. In the other constituency, the 1st, we will also witness a three-way race, but the outgoing LR deputy Aurélien Pradié does not seem threatened by the candidate of the Le Pen party.

Elsewhere in the region, in Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées and Tarn, the withdrawals of the candidates Ensemble!, or of the New Popular Front allow us to sum up this second round as duels, where the RN could be put in difficulty, if a significant transfer of votes starts. To be continued…

The Ministry of the Interior will announce the final list of candidates on Wednesday, July 3. The list above was drawn up based on the statements of each candidate.
