A great opportunity to discover or rediscover the works and their setting!

The Magnin national museum has been installed since 1938 in one of the most beautiful 17th century mansions in the historic center of Dijon. The Lantin hotel, built in 1663-1664 for a notable of the Chamber of Accounts of Burgundy and Bresse, is located in a privileged location, close to the old royal square, the Palace of the Dukes and the Estates of Burgundy and from the Dijon Museum of Fine Arts.

Acquired in 1829 by the Magnin family, the building, classified as a historic monument in 1939, has undergone various transformations, notably carried out in 1930-1932 by the architect Auguste Perret (1874-1954) to make it a museum and present the collection there. by Maurice Magnin (1861-1939).

The latter, senior advisor to the Court of Auditors, had assembled between 1881 and 1935, with the help of his sister Jeanne (1855-1937), an ambitious collection of nearly 2000 paintings, as well as drawings, sculptures, furniture and works of art, bequeathed to the State in 1939.

In addition to a rich Nordic and Italian collection from the 17th and 18th centuries, the collection includes some of the masterpieces of 17th century French painting by Laurent de La Hyre, Eustache Le Sueur and Sébastien Bourdon, and a very beautiful ensemble of French paintings from the 19th century. According to the Magnins’ wishes, the museum has kept its spirit of an amateur’s office and inhabited residence to this day.
